 BIOGRAPHIES

Ms. Elizabeth A. Darling, IFA-PRESIDENT

I was born in Hugo, Oklahoma in 1954. We moved to Irving Texas when I was three, then  to Oak Cliff at the south west edge of Dallas where I grew up.

Mother of two, grand mother of seven, General Certified Appraiser, and review appraiser for Landsafe Appraisal, Inc. Life has been abundant. My oldest grandson Kyler has been with me for the past four years due to life difficulties and today he is flourishing.

After graduating from high school a number of career changes occurred. General office work was the beginning. When my children were born, I worked from home taking care of other’s children. We lived in Plano, Texas. My desire was to stay at home with the boys so during there very earliest years, I had a Registered family home; this allowed me to care for a few children, and stay home to care for my own.

Later my father taught me to install wallcovering at night after watching the children during the day.  My father taught me much more than the trade, he taught me how a person should be. I became a wallcovering contractor, ending up as a general contractor with 56 employees doing mostly finish work for a total of 22 years.

Grass was grown under my feet. I decided to build a marina on Cedar Creek Lake and retire there. I wanted to build a place for people to have fun and play safely. The marina was completed but again life was ever changing. This was not to be the last experience.

Real Estate was a great interest, so back to school taking Real Estate classes. A real estate sale was not for me. Home inspections or appraising were interesting. Back to school (opportunities) again. After several years of classes, apprentice work, and practically starving, the appraiser licensing was complete. I worked out of my home for several years. Before long, I had three trainees. A few that came and stayed a short time finding it to challenging. Some working hard truly committed to the profession, and the ultimate goal of licensing making appraising real property their profession.

The past five years whenever time allowed, I worked towards certification with the NAIFA to teach classes our organization offers. Another goal accomplished. I am looking forward to teaching NAIFA classes.

This month, I enrolled in Ashford University to complete a degree plan for my Bachelors in Business Administration. (On the way to this accomplishment my desire is to get a teaching certification in order to teach at the local junior collage the courses required to be a Real estate appraiser) Back in school again! What a blessing it has been and is today.

Life changes brought me to today, working at Landsafe Appraisal, Inc. as a Certified General Review Appraiser II. I am privilege to be the President of This wonderful chapter of NAIFA. It is a pleasure to work with my friends. The future goal is to bring this origination to the public’s eye, so others may benefit from being a part of NAIFA.

I’m a second-generation appraiser. When I was a boy I used to ride with my father on the weekends and sometimes during the week. In college I majored in real estate later in 1984 I went to work for my dad as an appraiser. In 1989 I joined a commercial shop and in 1992 I started my own appraisal business. I have since worked for Fannie Mae as a Reviewer and am currently working for Landsafe/Bank of America as a reviewer.

Marc started doing appraisals with his grand father in 1998 and graduated High School in 1999.  He assisted his grand father on a few inspections and helped with some reports while working 60-80 hours a week as Store Manager of the local Domino's Pizza.  He became a Trainee in 2001 and started appraising full time.  He was fortunate to have a mentor such as his grand father who had vast experience and knowledge in real estate.  His grand father, Tom began appraising in 1960, under wrote home loans, developed subdivisions, and opened and ran a successful Real Estate Company.  All of his experience, knowledge, and one on one involvement helped Marc evolve into a well rounded and knowledgeable residential appraiser.  Marc became a Certified Residential Appraiser in March of 2004.  In 2005 and 2007 Marc attended the FW Chapter Summer Education Conferences.  Both Tom and Marc felt it was important to establish himself with an organization such as Naifa.  This was something Tom had never done.  Terry Clark the 2007 Chapter President introduced Marc to the chapter and discussed all the advantages of being part of an Appraisal Organization and an Appraisal Family.  At the end of the 2007 conference Marc joined NAIFA and the Fort Worth Chapter.  Four months after joining and with a lot of help from Terry, Marc obtained his IFA designation in January of 2008.  He wishes to Thank Tom Crabb and Terry Clark as they have provided invaluable leadership and knowledge which has undoubtedly changed his life.  He is happy to call the Fort Worth Chapter of Naifa home.  What can NAIFA do for you?
